Cushions

LAYOUTS

A diamond polishing method (formerly known as polishing an old mine) combines a square polishing with rounded corners, and its shape resembles a cushion – hence its name.

According to the American Gemological Institute (GIA), the world’s leading authority for diamonds, colored stones and pearls – cushion polishing diamonds have been around for 200 years, and polishing was the most accepted form in the field until the 20th century.

The cushion cut has always been popular and their appearance is appreciated by ancient diamond merchants. Their attraction is not based on their brilliance, since they are usually less brilliant than round brilliance diamonds, but on their fire: that is, the light reflected from a diamond, which in the case of stones in this polishing method is particularly strong.

As side stones, cushion cuts usually pair well with a cushion cut center.
